Surprised? Find out more about this amazing and unique breed with the 5 interesting facts below!
They are not baldies
Naked mole or featherless chicken? They are neither!
Sphynx cats may look bald, but they actually aren’t. Covered with a coat of downy fur, their coats feel similar to suede.
They are “hotter” than most felines
Like literally!
To make up for the lack of insulating fur, the Sphynx cat has an internal body temperature of about four degrees higher than the average cat.
Bonus fun fact: The higher body temperature also results in a higher metabolism rate. Meaning they are lil’ gluttons as they eat more frequently to satisfy their needs!
They can get sunburn
With that said, don’t get started spreading a huge amount of sunscreen lotion on your Sphynx when he is exposed to sunrays.
Take note that it is because of the absent of a thick coat that causes their skin to be more sensitive and delicate compared to that of other felines. Hence, making them prone to getting sunburn and overheated if taken out on a scorching hot day!
Although they are able to able to withstand the outdoor circumstances, they are still, best kept indoors like the precious little ones they are.
Bath time is a-must!
Surprise, surprise! Sphynx cats require frequent baths every now and then.
The Sphynx cat’s skin still produces body oil, and the lack of coat means there is nothing to help soak up the oil. Under normal situations, this oil helps in keeping our cat’s coat sleek however, In Sphynx, it builds an oily film on their bodies!
Thus, it is recommended that sphynx meowmies should shower their cats weekly to keep them pristine and healthy.
Same thing goes for their ears since there is no hair to trap the dirt and dead skin cells from building up, meowmies have to frequently wipe with washcloth or cotton ball.
They are attention-seeking and friendly
Do not judge a book by it’s cover, in this case, a cat by its looks. Their seemingly shy-looking appearance do not reflect their true personality as this breed is full of love and affection.
As highly-sociable, bubbly cats, they crave human’s touch and enjoy the company of other pets.
Not to mention, they are big fans of cuddles! (Great for our cuddle bugs out there)
