Best leafy greens for your cat

Eat your vegetables day falls on, 17 June 2021, and what better way to celebrate, than to get your furry companion joining in on this movement! Besides, the benefits of leafy greens extend to our feline pals as well!

The addition of healthy greens to your cat’s daily diet increases the intake of vitamins, minerals and fibre, which are necessary nutrients for daily growth. It is also a great way for finicky cats to get healthy while catering to their picky palate.

With that said, cats are carnivores by nature and their diet should not compromise mainly of vegetable. These juicy greens should only be fed to our kitties as a form of treat on top of their daily staple!

Without further ado, let’s dive into some yummy veggie options which are good for your kitties!

Carrots

Besides being a good source of vitamins and minerals, carrots are packed with beta carotene! Upon consumption, beta carotene converts into vitamin A and is considered as a super antioxidant.

Before feeding your cat, be sure to cook the carrots and dice them into small, bite-sized pieces to prevent any risk of choking.

Peas

The inclusion of peas in your feline’s daily diet ensures a healthy mix of proteins and carbohydrates.

Peas are also starchy food filled with fibre and vitamins B1, C, and K which are great in supporting your feline’s gastrointestinal health. This also means comfortable bowel movement and constipation relief!

The best way to feed them to your cats would be fresh, bland and unseasoned peas!

Broccoli florets

Broccolis consist of vitamin C and carotenoids, and are great sources of fibre and antioxidants for our kitties.

It is a pawsome veggie option for our feline friends, so much so that it is considered the healthiest green for cats! Steamed, boiled or blanced broccolis are all purrfect for our cat’s easy consumption.

Zucchini

Zucchini is a common, favoured ingredient used in numerous commercial cat food.

It is purrfect safe for our cat’s consumption and contains healthy plant-based minerals, like magnesium, potassium and manganese which our kitties can benefit from.

Lettuce

Similar to broccoli, lettuce is also ranked as one of the top greens that our kitties can consume safely. Packed with antioxidants, high water content and fibre, lettuce makes for a good, low-calorie occasional treat.

Similar to other veggies, it is best to cut into smaller pieces before feeding to prevent possibility of choking.

Last but not least, moderation is key when it comes to feeding human foods like veggies to our feline companions!
