5 Human Foods To Boost Your Cat's Health
Although cats should primarily eat cat food — which is specifically designed for their health and digestive needs — there are some human foods that can also be of great benefit to your cat’s health.
We love knowing that these foods have the power to make us feel good and look good and smell good (Cats are family too). And we truly believe the key to a long and healthy life begins with nutrition.
There are some wonderful natural food that can provide supplementary benefits to your cats’ health without breaking the bank or requiring you to import anything overseas. The following are five of our favourites.
Human Food #1: Meat
Indoor cats, like their big-cat counterparts (lions, tigers, cheetahs) are primarily obligate carnivores, which means they are designed to get their nutrition mainly from meat, not vegetables and carbs like their human counterparts. The meat protein keeps their hearts and reproductive systems healthy, as well as good eyes. When feeding your cat cooked meat be sure to exclude bones to prevent choking and make sure there aren't too many added spices.
Human Food #2: Fish
If you feed your cat wet food, you probably know that many of the options are fish-based. Fish has omega-3 fatty acids that are great for your cat's eyesight and heart. The omega-3 fatty acids found in them are good for your cat's eyes and heart, plus many other health benefits as well. Also, never feed your cat straight from the can; they may lick too vigourously and cut their tongues.
Human Food #3: Eggs
Eggs are a super source of protein that is easy to digest. They also contain essential amino acids responsible for keeping your cat lean and muscular. Also, be sure that there are no traces of shell in the egg! If you are watching your cat's weight, try to feed it with egg whites only since the yolk is high in fats and cholesterol,
Human Food #4: Banana
High in potassium and soluble fiber, bananas are a cat-safe snack! Fiber in a banana can prevent and reduce obesity. Having extra fiber can also promote a feeling of fullness without adding on calories. Although bananas are a healthy treat, be sure not to over feed them. Most cat owners give their furry friends bananas as a treat.
Human Food #5: Cheese
Cheddar, swiss and gouda are the perfect cheeses for your feline friend. They are high in calcium and protein which should be fed to your cats in small amounts. If your cat is lactose intolerant, only give very little amount and check if their stomach gets upset.
