A Feline Food Affair: How to Tell if Your Cat Loves What He Eats?
Nutrition is the building blocks of health and physical fitness but, nutritional food doesn’t always come in palatable flavours. This is especially true for our cats, considering that a cat’s reputation of being fussy eaters well precedes them. (Calling them finicky eaters can even be an understatement!)
With that said, meowmies still aim to satisfy the tastebuds of their little kings and queens while providing them with a nutritional diet. Besides, what’s the point of providing good quality nom when your cat rejects the food because it doesn’t entice his tastebud?
So, let’s master how we can decipher our cats’ behaviour to learn what his favourite food is! Understanding whether our kitties love their food is especially important if we are switching cat food brands.
Although, certain cat behaviours and body language may help indicate that they are actually enjoying their nom.
Keep in mind that not all cats are equal and that different behaviour can mean different meaning for individual cats but typically, these signs below are behaviours that cats often display when they are satisfied and contented with their noms.
Looking forward to meal time
The anticipation and excitement nearing meal time is evident.
Behaviours like your furbaby showing up when you are preparing his food and walking around your legs are clear signs that he is looking forward to his meal! (Some kitties might even jump up the counter!)
Some cats will also show their contentment through purrs and meows during food preparation or with their tail held up and, sometimes, even in a question mark position. (Our office cat, Niu Niu is always so excited that her tail quivers when we prepare her meals!)
Body language during mealtime
If your cat’s ears are either forward or in a relaxed position while she’s eating, (not pinned back or in airplane wing position) it means that the meal is accepted by his royal highness.
Other behaviours like sinking into meal with zero hesitation (not turning away after sniffing his food)and relaxed body posture when eating are good indications too!
On the other hand, if your cat’s tail is thumping up and down on the ground and growling or crying while eating, it means that it is time to ditch the current cat food for another!
Aftermath of mealtime
Given the appropriate amount for your cat, your cat’s bowl will be licked clean with no leftovers if he approves the food. There should also be no evidence of picking of certain ingredients left uneaten which, is similar to how kids refuse their greens!
Invest in superb food that your kitty will love
There after, we can reap the rewards of a good nutrition that is loved by our little ones as it truly shows in their appearance and behaviour!
