Dusty’s demographic information
Did you know that Dusty is also a crossbreed Munchkin-British Shorthair just like our other resident cat Raul? Her munchkin genes are the reason for her short stubby legs (which accounts for the adorable way that she walks). A genetic mutation gives rise to muchkin cats' very prominent short legs. If you found the aforementioned fun fact fascinating, do explore our ‘All about munchkin cats’ and ‘Introduction to British Shorthairs’ articles.
However, Dusty is younger than Raul. Dusty is merely about 3 years old (a young adult) in 2022. Fun fact: Raul is our oldest resident cat
Dusty’s choice
Next, we will reveal Dusty’s favourite products. The following products can be bought from our CatSmart online shop. Because we adopt a cat-first approach, we’ve let Dusty try out several products. After much experimentation, we realised that the following products are her favourite.
Dusty’s favourite toy: Cattyman Jarashi Enokoro Grass-Like Toys
Rationale:
Dusty enjoys biting the bushy tip of this lightweight toy, just like how she likes to nibble cat grass.
Dusty’s favourite food: Finesse Wet Food
Rationale:
Finesse’s delectable wet food comes with generous portions of gravy which Dusty loves to eat.
Dusty’s favourite cat paste: Brit Care Cat Paste Cheese Creme Enriched With Prebiotics
Rationale:
Dusty absolutely adores this cat paste which is the perfect pairing of deliciousness and nutritiousness. When we offer this treat to her, she will always come running over and is sometimes willing to stand on her hind legs to get this mouthwatering paste!
Dusty’s favourite collar: Cattyman le collier
Rationale:
Cattyman’s cotton collar is very comfortable. Plus, the stylish design, which is inspired by French and Japanese traditional elements, makes this collar aesthetically pleasing.
Dusty’s friendly, welcoming personality
To help you get a better understanding of Dusty’s lovely personality, we’ve curated some aspects of Dusty’s daily routine.
Penchant for greeting people
Avid followers of our life@catsmart Instagram page would know that Dusty truly loves sitting on a red chair. Have you ever wondered where the red chair is located? Well, Dusty's favourite red chair is placed at the entrance of our CatSmart office.
As such, those who visit our office are likely to have the immense pleasure of meeting Dusty. She will probably briefly sniff your shoes, then she might even jump on the table beside the red chair! We consider these actions as her way of greeting you like a hospitable host.
Habit of rolling over
Moreover, much to our delight, friendly Dusty adores rolling around on her back when she sees us. It is known that cats roll on their backs when they are feeling playful, relaxed, confident, itchy, or in need of a good stretch. We think that Dusty often shows her belly when she first sees us to show that she is happy to see us and desires some attention. In short, such behaviour is an affectionate expression of love.
And, of course, we return this affection by eagerly petting her. To us, petting Dusty is the best way to relieve stress; it is a magical process that does wonders to dispel our stress. We also love the fact that petting Dusty builds the bond that we have with her. But we do not pet her belly because we understand that when cats expose their bellies, it is unlikely to be an invitation to touch their stomachs. This is because cats’ stomach area is hypersensitive to touch thus petting that area would be stressful.
Fun fact: when kitties roll over in front of you, it is a sign that they trust you because they are willing to be in a vulnerable position where they expose their body's sensitive areas.
Practice of hiding
Lastly, Dusty also adores hiding. She hides inside all sorts of places like cardboard boxes, closets, plastic bags, and other secluded spots. Hence, to cater to her penchant for hiding, we put a hideaway bed and 2 cardboard boxes in our office.
Because Dusty is an escape artist who is skilled in hiding, locating her is no small feat. Thankfully, her collar with bells makes it easier for us to find her because we can hear melodious chimes wherever she walks.
Fun fact: CatSmart’s other resident cat Gordon is a seasoned escape artist too. Thus, we were unable to locate him several times. When he is determined to hide, it is a herculean task to find him. Even if we hunt repeatedly across the whole office, these efforts are to no avail—he will only turn up when he wants to.
